Sailworks gear not only look great, the meticulous prototyping, design and expert manufacturing process ensures every sail stands the test of time in extreme riding conditions. Sail development is continually advancing. Incremental refinement of small details of each sail may be individually imperceptible, but a collective set of many small improvements makes a superior sail design.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL
Advancement of the sail design comes from careful testing by professional sailors in controlled environments to isolate and define performance differences. Sometimes the development goals are subjective, for example the rider’s feel of the handling response. Other times the goals are very objective – does the sail point higher? Testing and monitoring the intuitive usability and function of our sails with recreational and novice sailors is also vital to our sail development. All of the performance feedback is consolidated and condensed to plot the future development.

QUALITY ASSURANCE
In 1997, Sailworks established its own sail production sail loft in southern China to increase the cost control and quality of its sails. The 12,000 sq. ft. sail loft employs 36 expert and caring sail artisans who work exclusively for Sailworks. There is a great sense of pride for the sails they make and they work as a team to ensure that an exceptional high quality standard is maintained. The methods of a production loft are performed in essentially the same manner as the prototypes are made at Sailworks R+D’s custom loft in Hood River.
